Send Message on a Google Form Submit

How do I automatically send a WhatsApp message on a Google Form submit?

This article describes how to setup WhatsApp message responses so that a WhatsApp notification is sent each time a new row is inserted into a Google Sheet containing Google Form responses (on future Google Form Submits etc.).

Step 1

From your Google Form response sheet, start the Walution add-on by clicking on Extensions > Walution > Start to open the Sheet dialog box for the Form Responses 1 sheet.

NOTE: For messages to be sent automatically on a Google Form submit, it is important that one of the fields on the Google Form is the phone numbers of the recipients, and that this is set as Required as in the screenshot below.

Step 2

From the WhatsApp Number drop-down, select the Phone number column.

All rows in this column must have a valid phone number (except the column name of course). For information on formatting phone numbers, please refer to this article.

Step 3

Enter your WhatsApp message.

Step 4

Personalize the WhatsApp message by clicking in a desired location within the message template, selecting a field from the Add Personalized Field drop-down, then clicking on Add. Repeat this step as required.

Personalized fields are the column names found in the first row of data in the Google Sheet (the questions from the Google Form etc.). The WhatsApp message can be further customized by formatting the message text and adding attachments.

Step 5

Click on Auto Send to open the Options to Send Messages Automatically dialog box.

Step 6

From the On a Google Form Submit drop-down, select Automatically send a message.

It is only possible to select Automatically send a message from the On a Google Form Submit drop-down if a Google sheet containing Google Form responses was selected in Step 1.

Step 7

Click on Save & Close.

Finally, click on Save in the Sheet dialog box to activate automatic WhatsApp messages in response to future Google Form submits.

Deactivate Automatic Messages

To deactivate automatic WhatsApp messages, click on Auto Send in the Sheet dialog box.

In the Options to Send Messages Automatically dialog box, select Do nothing from the On a Google Form Submit drop-down, then click on Save & Close

Finally, click on Save in the Sheet dialog box to deactivate automatic WhatsApp messages in response to future Google Form submits.
